Valor Points To Convert To Justice After Cap, Patch 5.2

One of the things that kind of saddens me is when I'm capped on Valor for the week and I get no rewards for scenarios or dungeons or LFR. Now, it doesn't ruin these activities for me, but now that I really can't upgrade my gear on my main via them and my alts have run them into the ground without seeing any rewards, I'd at least like to feel like I was getting something.

        Taepsilum over on the EU forums just posted that Patch 5.2 is going to fix that problem.

There are some changes planned for 5.2, for example, we would like to make Valor points convert to Justice as long as you're Valor capped.

The Dominance Offensive, Reputation in Review

　When you reach revered with the Dominance Offensive, you can purchase a Grand Commendation that will double your reputation gain. This means that instead of getting a chunk of story every other day, every single day will unlock more story content. At the end of the grind, you're presented with a free mount, and you have the additional option of purchasing an armored version of the mount -- wyverns for Horde, and gryphons for Alliance.
　　
The good
　　Hands down, the best portion of this reputation grind comes in two parts that work closely together -- the pacing, and the storyline. While there was a storyline available with most of the earlier reputation grinds in Pandaria, the 5.1 chains are paced far more efficiently. And that story isn't a story of Pandaria's past, or of any of the myriad native races in Pandaria -- it's a story of your faction.
　　That storyline ties directly into your character in a way that draws you in much more intimately than any other in Pandaria. You aren't trying to prove yourself to anyone. You are, instead, a hero of the Horde as you should be ... and as the chain progresses you are drawn into a story of political intrigue and power plays that is incredibly well-told. You see what happens to Vol'jin, you see what the blood elves are doing, you see where Thrall has been all this time.
　　You see what Garrosh is ultimately after in Pandaria, and you either embrace his new ideal for the Horde, or you wonder if your Warchief is pushing your faction off the precipice into utter madness. In between, you get mail from the various faction leaders who eventually show up in Pandaria -- Vol'jin, Lor'themar Theron, and Baine Bloodhoof all make appearances throughout this storyline. Their participation and their feelings on Garrosh are laid out for all to see.
　　
Because of the pacing, you're never lost in the story -- you always know exactly what's going on. And in case you need a refresher, there's a hozen named Tak Tak who ferries you to various locations around Pandaria for the chain. Much like any taxi driver, Tak Tak will chat with you along the way, filling you in on what has happened so far, what he's observed, and the implications of all he's seen. He acts as a narrator that ties the story chunks together, just in case anyone gets a little lost with what they are doing and why they are doing it.
　　There are repetitive dailies, of course. Five per day, and they rotate through different locations in Krasarang. But the pacing of the story in between the dailies breaks these repetitive dailies up enough that they really don't feel like a chore. There isn't a sense of obligation so much as a sense of eagerness to finish so that you can see what happens next. Ten dailies and you're on to the next part of the tale, which offers you enough reputation that you'll get to the next part of the tale just as efficiently.
　　The Grand Commendations are easily the best items introduced in patch 5.1. At revered, you can purchase one of these things, which causes every character on your account to earn double reputation with that faction. Grinding out that last gigantic chunk of reputation to get to exalted used to feel like a slog that would never end. With the Commendations, it feels like an absolute breeze. In addition, Alliance NPC's drop other Commendations that can be used to purchase other items, including portal stones that will open portals to other areas in the grind. Don't want to fly all the way to the Alliance base? Buy portal fuel to open a portal to the area. You're there instantly, with no travel time.

Are Low level Dungeons Too Easy

Taepsilum went on today a little bit about an assertion that low level dungeons are too easy. This position is one that many experienced players can likely sympathize with, particularly those who have alts climbing through the levels with full heirlooms and considerable player knowledge behind them.
　　For players in that position, yes, low-level dungeons are too easy. But, as Taepsilum points out, players with years of WoW under their belts ought to turn back the clock, to let the Ghost of Azeroth Past take them on a journey through time to their first ever dungeon. Hopefully they weren't as foolish as your writer, and didn't select tank without really realizing what it meant. The low-level dungeons have, at least to some extent, to cater to players who have never been in a dungeon before.
　　And, of course, for the lower levels, dungeon leveling has to contribute an equivalent amount of XP per hour to questing, or nobody would ever go into dungeons at all. But, as another poster in the same thread commented, perhaps it would be possible to open up heroic difficulties of dungeons at lower level to players who wanted a challenge?
　　This lead to an interesting question. If Blizzard were to do that, but made these harder dungeons award no more XP and no better gear than the easier ones of the same level bracket, would you choose to take the challenge, or stick with the easy modes?
　　Personally, I'd take the challenge. I can often be found on lower level toons queuing for the Burning Crusade heroics, for Botanica and the like, even though the rewards are inferior to those obtainable from the early Wrath dungeons. Partly, as I'm leveling tanking or healing characters a lot of the time, I enjoy the consternation of players being thrown into something unfamiliar from ym specific dungeon choices! But what about you? Taepsilum asserts that most players would take the easy route, and that the queues for the harder option would be longer. Do you agree?

The Limits of Transmogrification

　　I love transmogrification. I'm ridiculously enamored of it. I transmog all the time. Like, three, four times a day some days. I have specific looks for my DPS and tank sets, I work constantly on gathering that one iconic piece or weapon to tie a set together. I have sets based on old tier sets, sets recreating old looks from WoW's history, and sets I just made because I thought they looked cool. I am potentially a transmog junkie.
　　With that in mind, please take this as it is intended -- I think it's a good thing that there are some limits to what you can and can't transmogrify. Rygarius' response to a recent post about letting players transmog from grey items made me start thinking about how much is too much when it comes to transmog. Now, our own Anne Stickney made a post about whether or not we should lift transmogrification limits, and her post is well worth reading, because I think there's an ideological tension between the two conceptions that is worth discussing.
　　In short, there's a difference between the idea of lifting some transmog limits, and not having any limits, and I'd argue for erring on the side of caution.
　　
As Rygarius points out, it's fairly easy to look ridiculous now. Not only would opening the floodgates to grey and white items make that still easier, it would encourage people to hold on to grey and white items that currently exist primarily to be vendored (the origin of the term vendor trash, in fact) and it would make an already bad situation in terms of bank and storage space even worse. Imagine having to constantly mail and re-mail all of your grey and white items between various alts in order to use the mail as an ad-hoc second bank (something people already do too much) and how much additional strain that would put on a mail system that has to deal with a lot already.
　　That doesn't even address Rygarius' point about how allowing so many items to be eligible for transmog would mean having to then go through and weed out all the items Blizzard wouldn't want eligible. Even some green items are currently not eligible due to their not being within the bounds of what Blizzard wants to see in transmog, so imagine how many weird options would have to be pruned. At that point, do we even get any value from allowing grey and white items to be transmogged? You'd end up adding a ton of restrictions to the system, ultimately.
